President
Rose Kuplesky
2011-2012 President, SMA Alliance
Rose grew up in rural Louisiana in the small town of Coushatta. She graduated from Coushatta High, receiving the American Legion Award along with other honors. She then attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated as Outstanding Student Nurse. After a long nursing career as an operating room supervisor, Rose now works in a family practice clinic in Simmesport, alongside her husband, Steve.
She has been an RN for 35 years and has been working in Health Care since she was seventeen. Steve and Rose have eight children and reside in Simmesport, a town with a population of approximately 2,500. Rose loves her volunteer work, not only in Health Care, but also in community organizations. She is a member of the Simmesport Chamber of Commerce, the Simmesport Civic Club, the Simmesport Sports Association, and the Avoyelles Parish Soccer Association. She currently is the president of the Avoyelles Manager’s Association of Louisiana, as well as Representative to the Council on Legislation for the Louisiana State Medical Society Alliance and a Past President. She also sits on the hospital’s Board of Directors. “The Alliance is an avenue to give back to the community because God has so given to us.”
Rose is also a coach for children and young adults in basketball, soccer, and softball. Coaching is a hobby for her. “I love making a difference in the lives of these young people.” Rose has also been an avid runner, running her last marathon at 42 years old. It was a nationally sanctioned run in Bermuda for leukemia and she placed 11th in the nation in her age category. She still plays in softball tournaments occasionally with her older children and exercises regularly.
Rose loves SMAA because it shares the morals and ideals she believes in. “I love the Health Care, Doctors Day, and Medical Heritage Projects.” Education in our communities is vital and a responsibility of all, especially the family of medicine. SMAA not only supports this but also provides much needed ideas and information to bring back to our communities.
In Rose’s spare time, she loves to ride the tractor and put out roundup and works in her flowerbeds. Most of all she loves spending time with her family – her husband, Steve, her eight children, and her five grandchildren. “I humbly thank God for so many blessings.”
“I am humbled by the honor of serving SMAA. This organization has provided many friendships for us and has helped me to serve and promote the family of medicine.”
